Yekaterinburg is 20 years younger than Saint Petersburg, got it's name in honor of Peter the Great's wife - Catherine the Great, and was called the "mining capital of the Empire" for quite a long time.

Now you can hear frequently that Yekaterinburg is the "third capital of Russia", due to the position it occupies in the size of the economy, transport, culture and tourism.

Yekaterinburg is a very diverse city: it is associated with the most famous Russian industrialists - the Demidov brothers; with the Royal family who ended their life here; with the gemstones and storyteller Bazhov; with the first president of Russia Boris Yeltsin and the Russian Rock stars.

Also Yekaterinburg is known for its constructivist architecture and is considered to be the "Russian capital of street art."
